Welfare

The role of our swimming club welfare officer is essential as they provide a first point of contact for children, parents and adults within the club who have a safeguarding or welfare concern.

Any immediate concerns for a members safety or welfare should be flagged to a coach or one of the volunteers when on poolside at training or competitions so that it can be dealt with without delay.

Should you have a concern about any member of the club whether it concerns child/adult welfare, potential or alleged abuse then you MUST contact the club welfare officer and report your concern. Confidentiality is maintained as information is only shared on a ‘need to know’ basis.

Breaches of any codes of conduct should be reported to the committee, and poolside behaviour is managed ‘in the moment’ by the coaching team. The welfare officer may support any investigation and provide guidance where necessary.

The welfare officer is also the person responsible for processing DBS checks, necessary for any volunteers whose role means that they may come into immediate contract with children
